Which Tesla Color Should You Choose? Every Paint Option, Priced & Compared

Tesla's paint options are limited compared to traditional automakers, pricing varies significantly, and some colors are exclusive. Here's the complete breakdown.

Tesla Model Y Colors (2026)

Model Y White

Pearl White Multi-Coat is the most popular Model Y color — roughly 40–50% of all deliveries are white. It looks excellent on the Model Y's clean body lines and is the only included color.

Resale value: White historically holds the best resale value — it appeals to the widest pool of used buyers.

Model Y Black

Stealth Grey is the closest thing to black — it's a flat, dark gray that reads as near-black in low light. True black is not currently offered on the Model Y.

Model Y Red

Ultra Red is Tesla's premium red — vivid and distinctive. At $2,000, it's the second most expensive option. Shows swirl marks more readily than neutrals. Ceramic coating strongly recommended.

Quicksilver — Performance Only

A bright chrome-silver metallic exclusive to Model Y Performance. The most polarizing Tesla color: enthusiasts love it, buyers wanting subtlety avoid it.

Tesla Model 3 Colors (2026)

The Model 3 (Highland refresh) shares most colors with the Model Y with slight trim-level differences:

Deep Blue Metallic

Blue Model 3

Deep Blue Metallic is the most popular paid color historically. The deep navy-blue shifts slightly under different lighting — almost black in shade, clearly blue in direct sunlight.

Tesla Model S & Model X Colors (2026)

The Model S and X have a slightly expanded color palette:

Pearl White Multi-Coat

Included

Midnight Silver Metallic

$1,500

Deep Blue Metallic

$1,500

Solid Black

$1,500

Ultra Red

$2,500

Quicksilver

$2,500

Solid Black — Model S/X Only

The Model S and X offer Solid Black — a true black paint option that isn't available on Model 3 or Model Y. If you want an actual black Tesla sedan, the Model S is the option.

Tesla Cybertruck Colors

The Cybertruck is different — the exoskeleton is raw stainless steel, not painted.

Available Options:

  • Natural Stainless Steel — unpainted brushed/polished finish
  • Satin Black Wrap — factory-applied vinyl option
  • Matte Black Wrap — factory option in some markets

The stainless steel surface accepts vinyl wraps well — the aftermarket has produced hundreds of wrap options in colors not otherwise available.

Tesla Color Maintenance Tips

Ceramic Coating

For any Tesla color, ceramic coating (applied by a professional, $800–$2,500) provides:

  • Hydrophobic surface — water beads and sheets off
  • UV protection (valuable for red and blue pigments that fade faster)
  • Scratch resistance (not scratch-proof, but more resistant)
  • Easier cleaning for years

Best colors to ceramic coat: Ultra Red (fade protection), Deep Blue (water spot prevention), any dark color.

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

PPF is a clear urethane film applied to high-impact areas. Unlike ceramic coating, PPF provides genuine impact resistance.

PPF Pricing (Model 3/Y)

Full-front PPF

$1,200–$2,000

Full-vehicle PPF

$4,000–$8,000

White Maintenance

Shows brake dust from wheels but hides swirl marks. Remove bird droppings promptly — can etch clear coat. Light clay bar treatment 1–2x/year.

Silver/Grey Maintenance

Best for low-maintenance owners. Dust and light dirt are nearly invisible. Least demanding color choice.

Blue/Red Maintenance

Beautiful but show water spots and swirl marks more than neutrals. Ceramic coating strongly recommended for both.

Black Maintenance

Shows everything — fingerprints, water spots, scratches. Requires the most maintenance. Ceramic coating and PPF essential.
